ARTIST STATEMENT

Train Series 2008

This series of work consists of formal industrial portraits of various objects that were photographed from a moving trail on a trip from Grapevine, TX to the Ft. Worth Stockyards. While looking out the window of the train, I became fasinated by all of the colors and forms created by the train cars, pipe lines, and railroad electrical boxes in the remote areas along the way. I wanted to recreate the beauty that I saw in these objects that normally people would not see as beautiful. The series is made up of diptyches and in some cases five images put together to generate one long continuous image. The diptyches will be used to create a comparison between two images that for the most part look very similar but there is a slight difference the viewer has to find. The photographs are digital inkjet prints and measure 16X24” each.
